Commercial Landscaping Project: Enhancing Biodiversity Through Planting

This commercial landscaping project was designed to transform existing planting beds and enhance the appearance, biodiversity and seasonal interest of a commercial outdoor estate. OUTCO developed three planting options for the client, providing a clear choice of approaches before progressing with their preferred scheme.

Understanding the Site

Before the landscape enhancement works began, OUTCO assessed the existing environment and undertook a tree survey. This provided an understanding of the health and condition of existing trees and helped identify considerations that needed to be incorporated into the planned works.

A site map and programme of works supported the delivery plan, helping ensure the commercial landscape improvement could be completed in a structured and coordinated way.

Developing the Commercial Planting Scheme

Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, OUTCO developed three planting proposals for consideration. This allowed the client to select the commercial planting scheme that best reflected their requirements for the site.

The selected scheme incorporated a varied mix of shrubs, ornamental grasses, herbaceous perennials and selected trees. Species included Echinacea, Geranium, Achillea, Salvia, Bergenia and Calamagrostis, providing variation in colour, structure and seasonal interest.

Delivering the Landscape Works

Once the client approved their preferred design, OUTCO began the landscape works by clearing and cultivating the existing planting areas.

OUTCO improved the soil to prepare the beds for new planting before installing the selected scheme. The team then applied bark mulch to create a consistent finish and support the ongoing management of the landscaped areas.

A key consideration throughout the commercial landscaping project was creating an outdoor environment that offered more than visual improvement. OUTCO incorporated pollinator-friendly species and bug houses to encourage biodiversity while providing year-round visual interest.
